Q. How did you get where you are today, and who/what helped you along the way?

A. It took hard work, a little bit of luck and the love and support of my family. I have always been lucky to have really smart and talented people around me who have taught me so much and really propelled me to be successful in my life personally and professionally. It has been a blessing.

Question. Can you tell us a little bit about FirstLight Home Care and what drew you to it?

Answer. FirstLight Home Care provides compassionate in-home care, senior/elderly care and respite care to any adult in need, whether it is due to illness, injury, dementia, or just challenges that come with old age. Essentially, we give the supportive care that families need to help keep their loved ones at home. I became interested in FirstLight when my own grandfather was able to stay safe and independent in his home with the help of two special caregivers, who took such great care of him the last few years of his life. They made such a huge impact on his quality of life, and having in-home care for my grandfather was the best decision we made as a family.

Q. What is the most significant accomplishment of your career thus far?

A. I had a relatively successful career for the past 20 years in public accounting and banking, and to be able to switch gears toward something so different and more meaningful to me is what I consider a significant career accomplishment. When I get the phone calls from families in crisis and they are desperately trying to find the best care for their loved ones and I can help them, that is definitely more meaningful.

Q. How do you balance your work life with your personal life?

A. I have the best support system at home. I honestly could not start a new business without them. My husband, Ryan, and my two boys, Walker and Colton, really know how to step it up and help out when needed at home. They are cheering me on every step of the way. My business partner, Larry Price, who is also my father-in-law, is also a huge help in getting our business off the ground.

Q. What has your work taught you about leadership?

A. Starting a new business takes vision, resourcefulness and determination. You have to get everyone in the company to be on the same page. To be an effective leader, I need everyone's buy-in on what we're trying to accomplish, from my marketing director to the caregivers who are taking care of our clients.
