Town of Hilton Head Island Outdoor Burning Updates Update

Dates have been scheduled to allow the burning of yard waste due to Hurricane Matthew. The dates will be Saturday 10/22/2016 through sunset on Sunday 10/30/2016.
Please be advised the rules of the Town’s burning ordinance still apply:

  1. A permit to burn yard waste must be acquired from a fire station prior to burning.
  2. Private Communities and other complexes may have burning restrictions that do not allow burning. Please check with your property manager before burning.
  3. Burning of yard waste is for one and two family dwellings for debris originating on-site.
  4. No burning of yard waste on commercial properties is permitted.
  5. No burning of construction debris or household goods/trash. Citations will be issued.
  6. Your permit must be registered each day by calling 843-682-5125.
  7. The burn line is updated each day. Burning will only be allowed if the weather permits.
  8. Burning of yard waste is only permitted from Sunrise to Sunset.
  9. Debris piled in public right-of-way cannot be burned.
  10. Responsible persons must be on-site at all times with an extinguishing method.
  11. The pile size of 3 foot in diameter and 2 foot in height must be maintained, and the 25 foot distance away from structures must be maintained.
  12. Fires must be extinguished at sunset.
  13. All rules will be enforced.
  14. The fire department will be inspecting the burns.
  15. Upon request, the fire department will inspect an area to help the property owner comply with the rules prior to conducting burning.

Citizens are encouraged to use the public drop-off sites at:

  1. Coligny Beach Parking Lot at 1 South Forest Beach Drive (to the right),
  2. Old Concrete Plant at 111 Leg O Mutton Road, across from Gardner Drive,
  3. Old Gullah Flea Market Site at 120 William Hilton Parkway, across from Squire Pope Road traffic signal.
