Todd Ballantine to conduct kayak nature tour at Palmetto Bluff

Award winning naturalist and author Todd Ballantine will lead a guided sea kayak nature tour from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, departing from Wilson Landing at Palmetto Bluff. Ballantine, the author of Lowcountry field guide “Tideland Treasures” is an internationally recognized educator, environmental scientist, writer and artist.

His long-running newspaper column “On Earth” received the Harry Hampton Award for natural resource reporting from the South Carolina Wildlife Federation. Ballantine also writes a monthly environmental column for Hilton Head Monthly. Ballantine and his family currently reside in Boulder Colorado. His visit is a part of Outside Palmetto Bluff’s environmental education distinguished speaker program.

The two-hour tour will combine an introduction to sea kayaking with an informative and educational interpretive nature tour. Following a brief paddling clinic by a certified kayak guide, Ballantine will lead the tour through several creeks and inlets which boarder along the May River marshlands. Following the tour Ballantine will sign copies of his book. Proceeds from the program will go towards the benefit of The Kids in Kayaks Program, an initiative of the Port Royal Foundation.
