Fourteen Boys & Girls Clubs from around the state participated in the South Carolina State Games Event at the Boys & girls Club of Hilton Head. First prize went to host club Hilton Head, second prize to Timmonsville, and third prize to the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club. Competing for points in a number of events throughout the day, the kids enjoyed a variety of activities, meals and friendship. As host organization, the Hilton Head Club provided overnight accommodations and fun for visiting clubs on Friday evening. Seventy-five volunteers and 500 members from around the state enjoyed a day and a half of fun-filled learning and competition. Participating clubs included Midlands-Columbia Area, Charleston Naval Weapons Station, Beaufort, Jasper, Bluffton, Sumter, Coosa, Myrtle Beach and Pee Dee Area Timmonsville.

The Opening Ceremony began at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in the gym at the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head at 151 Gumtree Road. All attendees were treated to early-morning breakfast.

“This was an excellent way to promote exercise, fun learning and relationship building among our members,” said Joyce Wright, unit director. “All of our kids came here to have fun, learn, compete and win the trophy at the end of the day.”

A number of activities occurred on Saturday and included competitions in Jump Rope, Double Dutch, Free Throw Basketball, Soccer, Dodge Ball, 50 Yard Dash, Long Jump, Carpet Ball, Billiards, Connect Four, Uno, Checkers, Table Tennis, Foosball, Tennis, Golf and Dance Dance Revolution.

A Boys & Girls Club Best Dance Crew Team Competition and Tug of War was also held. Many local businesses contributed water, snacks, Gatorade, food and other items for the event. Thanks to all of our volunteers, donors and participants for making this event a huge success. Special thanks to Echo Water Systems, the Deli, One Hot Mama's, Reilley’s North, Remy’s, Hudson’s Restaurant, Sticky Fingers, Atlanta Bread, Taqueria & Restaurant La Fogata, Smokehouse, La Tampiquena Restaurant, Cabritos Mexican Restaurant, The Snack Shack, Wendy’s and McDonald's for their donations of food and beverages.

The entire weekend was based on the Triple Play Experience, a Boys & Girls Club of America program that challenges members to become healthy and active by learning new ways to eat nutritionally, mange stress, maintain physical fitness and form positive relationships with their peers.
