The Caring Coins Foundation, a non-profit entity founded in August 2003 and administered by Hargray Communications, announced an $80,000 donation to 17 local nonprofit organizations during a ceremony today attended by the recipients.
Caring Coins disburses its awards, which are generously contributed by participating Hargray customers, three times a year. “Caring Coins has proudly accepted the contributions of generous Hargray customers who have donated more than $1.3 million since the inception of the program in 2003,” said Paula Bethea, chairwoman of Caring Coins’ board of directors. “The generosity of Hargray customers has been overwhelming, and we look forward to another five years of helping to support local charities in the local Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Hardeeville, Ridgeland and Beaufort areas.”

“Thank you to Caring Coins and thank you to Hargray customers,” said Jenny Haney, executive director, Bluffton Self Help. “It truly means so much to all of us in this community who have benefited.”
“Hargray is proud to support Bluffton Self Help and many other local charities through the Caring Coins Foundation,” said Eddie Andrews, director of marketing, Hargray Communications. “It should be noted, however, that this funding would not be possible without the participation of so many Hargray customers. We are truly grateful to them for their generosity.”
The company hopes that even more Hargray customers choose to contribute in the months ahead, especially during these difficult economic times, Andrews added.
To contribute, Hargray customers may contact their local office to enroll in the program. For an average of $4.78 each year, participating customers touch the lives of so many. Those extra few cents, which add up quickly, are managed by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. The Caring Coins board meets three times a year to determine award amounts to local charities.
