Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, Agencies from Five Counties, Ink Partnership
Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, the children’s advocacy and rape crisis center serving the 14th Judicial District, which includes Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper and Allendale counties, joined with representatives from nearly 40 agencies on October 22 to sign a partnership to assist victims of child abuse and their families.
Agency representatives throughout the five-county region joining the Multidisciplinary Team include prosecutors, investigators, police and sheriffs’ offices, social services and hospitals.
We’re here today as individual public and private agencies tasked with specific roles and functions,” Hope Haven Executive Director Shauw Chin Capps said at the event at Technical College of the Lowcountry near Bluffton. “Yet, when it comes to the daunting problem of child abuse, we recognize that child abuse is a community problem.
“No single agency, individual or discipline has the necessary knowledge, skills or resources to successfully intervene and to provide the assistance needed by the children and families in these cases,” she said.
This Multidisciplinary Team approach will enhance the individual efforts of each agency, which research has shown to be a best-practice standard when dealing with child abuse cases.
Other featured speakers included Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner, Beaufort County Department of Social Services Director Keith Davis, 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone, and state Rep. Shannon Erickson of Beaufort. For more information, visit hopehavenlc.org or call (843) 524-2256.
