The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue recently accepted a $6,000 donation from Universal North America Insurance.
The donation will be specifically utilized to offset the cost of a new Thermal Imaging Camera. The donation was coordinated by Bill Thomas, vice president, and Pam Wells of the Personal Lines Department of BB&T/Carswell Insurance Services on Hilton Head Island.
On hand to present the check were Jim Sandifer from Universal North America along with Bill Thomas and Pam Wells of BB&T / Carswell Insurance Services.
Thermal Imaging cameras are becoming standard equipment for fire departments. They allow firefighters to identify sources of heat which in turn enable firefighters to more quickly find the source of fire or victims in areas of little or no visibility. A Thermal Imaging camera dramatically increases the probability of performing a successful rescue and helps to reduce property damage.
The Fire Rescue Department is in the process of purchasing thermal imaging cameras for all front line fire apparatus.
The check was presented April 1 at Fire Station No. 6 in Palmetto Dunes to Fire Chief Lavarn Lucas and other members of the department.
