Town Manager Steve Riley announced that Hilton Head Island Town Councilman Bill Mottel would step down after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Mottel was first elected to the council in November 1998 to complete the term of Al Winston III. Mottel moved to South Carolina in the 1950s to help design, build and operate the Savannah River Site for the DuPont Co., under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy.
