Hilton Head Island’s Fire Department gets even more high-tech and eco-friendly.

Safety features, such as the bright striping and placement of warning signals at the rear of the vehicle, were influenced by important findings provided by various safety studies.During a free community pancake breakfast, hosted by Hilton Head Fire Station 4 (off Squire Pope Rd.) in October, attendees enjoyed a tasty, homecooked meal as well as a tour of the station and its new high-tech, eco-friendly apparatus’ - while many are familiar with the term ‘fire engine’, vehicles actually vary in purpose and name.

The vehicle showcased here, for example, is actually a pumper,’ made by Crimson Fire Inc., based in South Dakota.

While this pumpers sticker price is a little higher - it runs about $300,000, most would agree that its advanced technology, enhanced safety features and invaluable benefit to the community are well worth the investment.
