A wildfire that began two days ago is not impacting tourism along the coast, according to a news release from the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The fire is located well west of the Intracoastal Waterway, affecting a small area of the Grand Strand. No major injuries have been reported and everyone is safe thanks to the efforts of the emergency personnel.
The North Myrtle Beach Fire Department and Horry County are actively addressing the situation to minimize impact to homes in the surrounding area.
The positive response received by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce CVB for emergency accommodations and services has been overwhelming according to Marc Jordan, president/CEO.
"We have more than 600 rooms, condos, and vacation homes available, which have been offered by our members for this unfortunate event," he said. "We have also been offered accommodations for pets and large animals. This is what makes North Myrtle Beach such a special place to visit and live. Everyone pitches in to help at times like this."
Visitors to North Myrtle Beach should be aware of the following:
- The Myrtle Beach Airport is open and completely unaffected.
- Area golf courses are open and operating on a normal schedule — including Grande Dunes and Waterway Hills.
- Vacationers visiting North Myrtle Beach this weekend and next week should not be affected.
- There are no reports of major disruptions to hotels or visitor attractions throughout North Myrtle Beach.
- To avoid traffic congestion, it is recommended that drivers avoid Hwy. 22 and Hwy. 31.
