Over the last two weeks, deputies have responded to multiple burglaries at vacant rental/vacation homes, both in North and South end neighborhoods. Approximately 17 homes in the North and South Forest Beach Rd areas were reportedly burglarized last week.
After a brief respite in break-ins, the burglaries appeared to have resumed. On Saturday morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to five burglaries in the Burke’s Beach area on the North end of the island. Homes on both First and Second Streets off of Burke’s Beach were discovered to have been broken into over the previous night.
As with the previous South end burglaries, flat screen televisions appear to be the target of thefts in each of these most recent burglaries, with multiple TV’s reportedly stolen from the residences. Evidence of forced entry was found at each location, with the suspect(s) apparently using unknown tools to pry open locked doors in the garage areas of each home.
Residents are encouraged to secure their property by keeping doors and windows locked and utilizing security systems when available. It is also suggested that homeowners attempt to document all valuables by recording make, models, serial numbers, and/or accurate descriptions, as this information can be essential in recovery efforts should items ever be stolen.
In addition to increased officer presence in the area, residents are also asked to keep an eye out for and promptly report any suspicious person(s), vehicles, or activities.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact Investigator MSgt M. Riley at 843-842-4111 ext 250 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
