Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce leadership class of 2009.
Twenty-two notable residents of the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton communities will comprise the Leadership Class of 2009. The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the leadership program, has commissioned its latest class, which began with an orientation session on August 13 at chamber headquarters.
The program is now in its 24th year, having graduated the first class in 1986. Each year a new group of individuals with noteworthy qualities of leadership is selected for the nine-month program, designed to inform and equip them for assuming further positions of leadership throughout the community.
The current class will meet again during the second weekend in September for the Retreat and Challenge Course, an overnight trip to Daufuskie and Page Islands. There they will experience interpersonal development and team building, through the guidance of a professional facilitator. During the retreat, the group will also come to agreement on an all-member, class project of work that will be of significant benefit to the community.
Each month thereafter the class will meet for a full day to hear from distinguished community leaders in education, government, business, the arts, the environment, and a host of civic and service organizations. Each class member who fulfills the program requirements will be recognized with a formal graduation ceremony in early June 2009.
