Susan C. Williams and Andrea S. Allen were recently appointed by Beaufort County Council to serve on the board of trustees of Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
They are filling vacancies left by Charlene Robinowich and Alice Wright, whose terms recently expired. Dr. Steven Kessel was reappointed to serve on the board. Terms for all three expire in February of 2013.

This is Williams’ second stint as a member of the BMH board; she previously served from 1993 to 1998.  Since that time, she held leadership positions at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Outer Cape Health Services Inc., in Orleans, Mass. She returned to the area in 2005 to work on nursing (BSN) program development at USC – Beaufort. She is currently department chair, nursing and an associate professor at USCB.

Williams received her BSN from Michigan State University, and her MS from Boston College. In 1996, she received her PhD in nursing science from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Allen is assistant director and member of the executive team with the Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center. She directs the Child, Adolescent and their Families Program, and is in charge of consultation, education and planning. She is also a licensed master social worker (LMSW), and provides consultation and training in child and adult mental health issues.

A graduate of Tennessee State University in Nashville with a BA in history, Allen went on to receive her masters degree in history there. Later, she completed 18 hours toward a MSW degree from the University of South Carolina.

Prior to moving to Beaufort, Allen worked for the state of Tennessee at the Moccasin Bend Psychiatric Hospital in the children’s division. In 1978, she moved to Beaufort and began working as a mental health counselor at Coastal Empire Mental Health. She has participated in community and state level programs including Collaborative Organization for Services of Youth (COSY) and Senior Services of Beaufort.
