The Beaufort County Board of Education voted Feb. 3 to defeat a motion Brought by member Joan Deery to halt construction on the $35 million Whale Branch High School. Deery, who represents Hilton Head Island, made the motion to stop construction after a consultant’s report predicted continued enrollment declines in the part of the county the high school would serve.
The motion was defeated 9-2 and Superintendent Valerie Truesdale presented new plans for the facility in Northern Beaufort County to serve as a technical school and career center.
