Two of the three 2008 South Carolina Center for the Book Awards were given to one Beaufort County Resident and one Beaufort County arts organization – Eileen Bergreen of Hilton Head Island Middle School won the Teaching Award, and The Arts Council of Beaufort County won the Literary Arts Advocacy Award. The award ceremony took place on August 14. The organization is an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book and is a cooperative project of the South Carolina State Library, the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science, and The Humanities Council.
