All Beaufort County residents now have access to a discount card that can help them cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county government is making free discount cards available that offer average savings of 22 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed medications.
The program is aimed at uninsured residents, but the cards are available to all residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage, and can be used whenever a prescription is not covered by health insurance.
The county said it will be accepted at most pharmacies in Beaufort County. The program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy and service organization for county government interests. The cards come at no additional cost to county taxpayers.
“The (National Association of Counties) prescription discount card offers significant savings for the uninsured and under-insured residents of our county. Even those fortunate to have prescription coverage can use the card to save money on drugs that are not covered by their health plan,” county administrator Gary Kubic said in a statement. “Residents do not have to be Medicare beneficiaries to be eligible for this program.”
Residents can pick them up at county offices, libraries, pharmacies and doctor’s offices, or print one out from www.caremark.com/naco. The website also includes a list of participating pharmacies. Residents can also call 1-877-321-2652 to find out more about the program.
