Special Olympics volunteer Myron Meister, tennis official Sandra Morrissette and junior coordinator Bob Brown have been selected for honors Dec. 13 at the South Carolina Tennis Association’s annual award ceremonies in Myrtle Beach.
The 2008 awards will be to Meister as Special Olympics Volunteer of the Year, to Morrissette as Pete Conklin Official of the Year and Brown as Junior Team Tennis Coordinator of the Year. Also to receive an award is former HHI teaching pro Joey Eskridge of Mount Pleasant as John Newcomb Pro of the Year.
Each year players, volunteers, events and officials are nominated for awards that range from most-improved juniors to tennis sponsors. Honorees are chosen by a USTA South Carolina awards committee.

Meister is a founder and president of the Hilton Head Island Special Olympics, developing programs for local athletes to compete here and in state events. Morrissette is a longtime tournament official, regularly serving as tournament referee for several local USTA-sanctioned tournaments. Brown, of Bluffton, has been a major promoter and director of the area’s Junior Team Tennis leagues in which players of various ability levels compete locally and in state championships. He also is Bluffton High School tennis coach.
The annual meeting, held for the last several years at Westin Hilton Head Island Resort, will be Dec. 11-14 in Myrtle Beach.
