Hilton Head Island is a great place for fun on summer nights. Here are a few of the highlights this month:
Free movies at Shelter Cove
“Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” is the feature film at Movies in the Park on July 9 at Shelter Cove Community Park.
The Island Recreation Association and Adventure Radio are sponsoring this event. Along with the feature film, hot dogs, popcorn, shaved ice, Coca-Cola, wine and Budweiser will be sold. The event is free for children 10 and under and $5 for those over 10.  The night starts at 7:30 p.m. with the movie starting around 9 p.m. For more information, call 681-7273; or visit www.islandreccenter.org.

Picnic & Pops
The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra is offering Picnic & Pops concerts at Shelter Cove Community Park during July. Bring your own chairs and blankets and a family picnic (or buy food and drink on-site). Picnics start at 6 p.m., with the one-hour concerts starting at 7 p.m. The concerts include:
  • July 7: “Broadway Tonight,” featuring your favorite hits from Broadway performed by the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Manny Alvarez.
  • July 14: None of the Above, a bluegrass-based acoustic music band.
  • July 21: Pantasia Steel Band, playing Latin music. Get in the swing with island favorites, beach tunes, calypso, pop and reggae.
  • July 28: Lavon C. Stevens will perform gospel, soul and jazz.

Concert in the Park
The Rotary Club of Bluffton will present its final free Sunday “Concert in the Park” from 5-9 p.m. July 25 at Oscar Frazier Community Park in old town Bluffton. Concert attendees will enjoy the Headliner’s variety of motown, disco, beach music, classic rock and more. Bring lawn chairs, umbrellas, tents, soccer balls and more. The Rotary’s grilled hot dogs and brats, ice cream and ice cold beverages will be available for purchase. Coolers and pets are strictly prohibited. Kazoo for the kids
The Kazoobie Kazoo Show with Rick Hubbard gets the entire family involved. Along with his computerized music tracks, Hubbard plays guitar, banjo, steel drum, slide whistle, and best of all, kazoo. For the grand finale of the show, everyone in the audience receives a free kazoo. The newly formed kazoo band performs a marching, kazooing final song. Gregg Russell Family Concerts

Gregg Russell, a Hilton Head tradition for more than 24 years, sings under the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town at 8 p.m. every night except for Saturdays. There are games, interviews, sing-a-longs and great entertainment. Call 671-3590; or visit www.greggrussell.com for more information.

Coligny Plaza
Various children’s entertainment takes center stage at Coligny Plaza through Labor Day. Mondays include Monday Night Magic with Gary Maurer; Wednesdays is Pachanga, The Latin Sound of the Lowcountry; Reggae band Positive Vibrations performs on Thursdays; and there’s a Family Dance Party on Fridays.

Shannon Tanner Children’s Concerts
This is another Hilton Head tradition. Shannon Tanner has been performing family shows for more than 21 years at Shelter Cove Harbour.  Concerts are from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Call 422-4270 for information.
