There are plenty of activities available this summer for kids, ranging from sports to the arts to academics and more. They include:


CAMP LOWCOUNTRY DAY

Camp Lowcountry Day will be riding the range at “Saddle River Ranch” as it “Rounds up questions” and “Drives home the answers” about Jesus. Field trips, swimming, arts & crafts, snacks, lunch and more.

OUTSIDE HILTON HEAD

A staff of trained outdoor educators and naturalists lead these camps from June-August.
  • Discovery Days: A camp for ages 7-10 that combines education with kayaking. Activities include interpretative beach walks, marsh paddles and games.
  • Eco-Venture: Camp for ages 11-14 teaches the basics of kayaking while developing an understanding of the natural world through hands-on study of coastal ecology.
  • Teen Kayaking: Two hours of kayaking, crabbing and games.
  • Adventure Island: Event is designed for ages 12-15. Activities include a boat ride to secluded and private Page Island, where teens will kayak through tidal marshes and investigate the island’s habitat.

COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM

Campers explore the cultural heritage and natural history of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
When: One-day camps: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; ages 6-11 years

  • June 21: Marine Mammals: Dolphins, Right Whales, Manatees

CAMP SHELL HALL SEGGIE TENNIS ACADEMY

Six hours of professional tennis instruction, refreshments, prizes, complimentary pool use following camp, optional private lesson.

SEA PINES RESORT

When/where: Sea Pines, various dates
  • Family Hayride: 3:30-4 p.m. and 4:30-5 p.m. Sundays. Explore some of the sights and sounds of the forest preserve aboard an old-fashioned hay wagon, and search for alligators, turtles and birds. $5 per person. Reservations required.
  • Photo Scavenger Hunt: 2-4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays. Explore Sea Pines Resort by trolley, bike or car and follow clues. Cameras supplied. This is not a supervised activity. To get started go to the Plantation Club Fitness Center. $20 per team.
  • Let’s Go Crabbing: 9-10:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays. Spend the morning on the sandy shores of South Beach in search of Hilton Head Island’s largest and tastiest crab, the blue crab. Hermit crabs, seagulls and the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin also often make appearances. Supplies provided; catch and release. $13 per adult, $10 per child 12 and under for guests of Sea Pines Resort and Sea Pines property owners; otherwise $14 per adult and $11 per child 12 and under. Reservations required.
  • Freshwater Fishing: 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays. Enjoy a morning by the lakes of forest preserve. Fishing tackle provided; catch and release. $13 per adult and $10 per child 12 and under for guests of Sea Pines Resort and Sea Pines property owners, otherwise $14 per adult and $11 per child 12 and under. Reservations required.
  • Family Night (Pizza and a Movie): 8-10 p.m.Wednesdays. Summer nights for the family are never boring floating on a tube at the Plantation Club pool while watching a flick and eating pizza with the family. $10 per adult, $8 per child 12 and under for guest of the Sea Pines Resort and Sea Pines Property Owners; otherwise $11 per adult and $9 per child 12 and under. Reservations are required.
  • Evening Hayride: 8:30-10 p.m. Wednesdays. Find out what goes bump in the night by experiencing the Sea Pines Resort Forest Preserve after dark. $13 per adult; $10 per child 12 and under for guests of Sea Pines Resort and Sea Pines property owners; otherwise $14 per adult and $11 per child. Reservations required.
  • Gullah Campfire Storytelling: 8-9 p.m. Thursdays. Join us around the campfire for a night of Gullah stories, history, language, lifestyle and songs. $13 per adult; $10 per child 12 and under for guests of Sea Pines Resort and Sea Pines property owners, otherwise $14 per adult and $11 per child. Reservations required.
  • Gregg Russell concerts: 8-9:30 p.m. Sundays-Fridays. Sit under the grand branches of the Liberty Oak Tree and listen as Gregg Russell plays his guitar and sings. Free.
  • Fun For Kids/Kids Night Out: 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 9 a.m.-noon, 1-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 6-9 p.m. Thursdays. High-energy, activity-based, outdoor-oriented summer day camp. Children ages 4-12 will get out and explore the Sea Pines Resort and Hilton Head Island. Activities include swimming, the Water Fun Park, mini golf, arts & crafts and more. JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM

South Carolina Yacht Club, Hilton Head
  • Guppies (ages 6-7): An introduction to the elements of basic seamanship including rowing, basic sailing, knot tying, navigation, along with developing confidence on and in the water.
  • Learn to Sail (ages 8-17): For those with little or no sailing experience.
  • Intermediate: For those with a minimum of four weeks prior sailing instruction and demonstrating skill and confidence in “single-handing” a dinghy.
  • Racing: For those serious about racing.

STAR RIDGE STABLES SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

Horse activities geared toward developing the knowledgeable horseman. All have the opportunity to improve riding skills, stable safety, grooming, saddling and feeding horses.

  • Road Trip! Adventures in American Art
: Travel the country from coast to coast learning about the history of art in America.
 When/where: Ages 5-7, 1-3 p.m.; ages 8-12, 10 a.m.-noon, June 21-26. Cost: $100 per week or $175 for both weeks (visual and performing arts camp are in the same week)
  • Mixed Up Masterpieces Visual Arts Camp
: Students will work in such mediums as painting, sculpture, printmaking, found objects and more. When/where: Ages 5-7, 1-3 p.m.; ages 8-12, 10 a.m.-noon, July 19-23 Cost: $100 per week or $175 for both (visual and performing arts camps are in the same week)
  • Kids N Clay Camp
: Students ages 6-12 will learn a variety of ceramic hand-building techniques, including pinch, slab, coil, surface decoration, glazing and more. When/where: Session 1,10 a.m.-noon; session 2, 1-3 p.m. July 5-8 and July 16 (glaze day). Cost: $100 per week
  • Out of this World Art Camp
: Students will create a cosmic collection of art inspired by adventures in space. When: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 2-6. Cost: $100
  • Take the Stage! Performing Arts: Each session will expose children to a variety of performing arts, such as dance, theater and music. When: Ages 5-7, 10 a.m.-noon; ages 8-12, 1-3 p.m. June 21-25 and July 19-23. Cost: $100 per week or $175 for both (visual and performing arts are in the same week)
  • Theatre Camp: Campers will experience a mini-production and will not only be the cast, but also will be the production crew, learn how to write scripts, understand and develop character, create set design and props and design costumes. When: Session 1: Imagination Station, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 12-16; Session 2: Adventures in Wonderland, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 26-30. Cost: $150

Fitness Summer Camps (ages 4-8)
Camps will include kids fitness classes, free play and games in the playground (private use for campers only), themed craft projects, science experiments and a healthy snack.

  • Girls Lacrosse: (ages rising 3rd through 8th grade), Join this high-powered camp and develop stick skills along with a tactical understanding of the game. When: 9 a.m.-noon, July 5-9
  • Girls Health/Fitness/Nutrition: (girls age 12-16), Girls today in the 12-16 year age range face a variety of issues relating to their health and well-being. The camp will feature an emphasis on exercise (including cardio, boot camp training, weight training, yoga/pilates, and stretching). When: 9 a.m.-noon, July 5-9
  • Volleyball: (girls ages rising 5th through 8th grade), Volleyball basics camp for girls will focus on the fundamental skills and rules of volleyball: passing, setting and serving, and how to implement these skills into actual games. When: 9 a.m.-noon, June 21-25
  • All-Star Sports Camp: (rising K through rising 5th grade), Basketball, soccer, volleyball (girls), football (boys), and fitness/other sports activities.   • Summer Conservatory Piano Class: (ages rising 3rd through rising 8th grade), Each session of this camp will include piano instruction and supervised practice.   • Advanced Performing Arts: (ages rising 9th to 12th grade), In this camp, participants will work intensively on a broad range of techniques required for success in this exciting world. When: 12:30-3:30 p.m. June 1-June 4
  • Animal Care Camp: (ages rising 3rd through 8th grade), Campers will investigate animal-oriented careers and experience hands-on moments with many different types of animals. When: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 14-18 and July 26-30
  • LEGO Camp: (ages rising 5th through 9th grade), Creative/interactive technology camp which features LEGO robotics. When: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 7-11
  • Math Games and Tricks: (ages rising 4th through 7th grade), Campers will play different games using a variety of math skills along with learning some “mathemagic” tricks and ways to do problems faster. When: 12:30-3:30 p.m. June 28-July 2
  • Camp College: (ages rising 7th through 8th grade), Campers will explore what going to college means in terms of academics, athletics, social issues, responsibility and honor. When: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 21-June 25
  • Junior Jump Start: (rising 12th grade), Campers will research potential colleges in order to “make the match” for college applications. When: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 26-30
  • Fun With Hands-On Science: (ages rising 5th through 8th grade), Investigate motion with motion detectors, investigate the relationship between chemistry and art, and more. When: 9 a.m.-noon July 5-9
