Schedule a "checkup" with your fitness professional

So exactly how many times do I (insert: push/pull/press) with this machine?

One of the most common questions I am presented with is the one dealing with the number of repetitions to perform a given exercise.

The truth about the number of repetitions is that there is no exact number to shoot for.

While this is very important in developing strength, it truly varies for each individual.

For example, you perform 12 repetitions on the Life Fitness Leg Curl machine at our Palmetto Plaza location, but you could have performed 20 or maybe you barely got to 12 and some of the repetitions were using better technique than others.

My point is that without the help of a fitness professional to monitor your technique for every repetition, there are no simple guidelines to follow.

I am not saying that it is necessary or feasible for everyone to work with a personal trainer every workout, however, I do recommend, for your health and safety, to schedule at least one session every month with one of our extraordinary trainers at Palmetto Athletic Club.

Just as you wouldn’t assume brushing your teeth keeps them in good health and never go to the dentist, you should think of a once a month session with a fitness professional as a “checkup,” just to make sure the exercises you’re performing are safe and leading you in the right direction.

You may be doing the right thing performing those 12 repetitions on our Life Fitness Leg Curl machine, but just to be sure, stop by and schedule an appointment with a trainer.
