By Lynn Brooks, Executive Director Hospice Care of the Lowcountry
The word “hospice” has become such a generic term for end-of-life care that many are unaware of the differences between various hospice providers when the time comes to make a decision.
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry is an exceptional organization not because it is among the oldest in the region but because of the high standard it maintains in terms of professionalism and personal care. And of course when it comes down to choosing a hospice care provider for your loved one, the quality of care is what’s most important.
All of our nurses at Hospice Care of the Lowcountry possess the highest level of hospice and palliative care certification. This certification ensures expertise and knowledge specifically in end-of-life and home health care, giving families peace of mind that their loved one is in capable hands. Our medical director is also available to make house calls.
Supporting our professional staff is a team of more than 150 volunteers who participate in a variety of patient care and administrative roles, making it one of the largest volunteer groups for a hospice organization in the four-county area.
Our mission has always been to provide the very best, advanced hospice and palliative care. But, for us, there’s also a second aspect to that commitment: which is making sure families have quality time to spend with their loved ones – time that is uninterrupted by the financial stress and worry which often accompanies an illness. At Hospice Care of the Lowcountry cost is never an issue. Even if a person is not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or insurance we don’t send a bill for services – and we even provide bereavement counseling at no charge. We’re able to do this through the donations and financial support of community members. No one is ever turned away due to inability to pay.
Our licensed, professional staff is available 24/7 providing support for the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of your entire family. If you are a caregiver, a friend or a person coping with a terminal illness, call Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, the community’s resource in palliative care.
