The sixth annual Kathy’s Race 5K Run/Walk will be held at 1 p.m. April 23 at the Hilton Head Island High School Stadium.
Kathy’s Race is held annually in honor of cancer victim Kathy Jaworski, a beloved social studies teacher at Hilton Head Island Middle School, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2005.
Many people can attest that Kathy, known as “Miss J” or “Mama Jaworski by her students and co-workers, has a special way — not to mention endless patience — with her students, especially ones that required extra attention. She was passionate about education and treated her students as her own family.
Kathy’s Race began as a fundraiser to help offset medical expenses. The hugely successful race has continued on since 2005, celebrating Kathy’s memory and serving as a resource to provide college scholarships to graduating seniors.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early for registration. Entry fee is $10 per person and student sponsorships are available.
