Vormohr joins Beaufort Memorial
Dr. David W. Vormohr, a family medicine specialist who has practiced on Hilton Head for the last 10 years, has joined the medical staff of Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Prior to moving to Hilton Head, he was medical consultant for the National Institute for Fitness and Sports and for the Indianapolis Colts from 1994-96. He has also provided medical coverage at the WTA Family Circle Tennis Tournament and the Heritage Golf Tournament on Hilton Head Island from 1996-2000. Vormohr will begin seeing patients on Aug. 3 at Beaufort Memorial’s Bluffton Primary Care office at Bluffton Medical Services in Westbury Park. Call 843-706-8690.

Crowne Plaza hires new catering director
Francie Syron is the new director of sales and catering at the Crowne Plaza on Hilton Head Island. Syron began her career with the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 1991 in Kansas City. She has worked at more than 20 IHG properties all over the country, most recently in Florida, where she served as director of sales and marketing for the 650-room Holiday Inn I Drive and the 500-room Holiday Inn Cocoa Beach.
SunTrust welcomes new loan officer
Matt Webster recently started at SunTrust Mortgage as a loan officer. He has more than 20 years experience and most recently worked for Wachovia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University.
Concours hires new board chairman
Philip Capossela is the new chairman of the board for the Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival. Capossela has been an active festival participant since 2005. He spent 34 years in the automotive industry, first serving as field manager for Chrysler Motors Corp. in New York and New Jersey. He later held a variety of positions, including national dealer development manager, vice president of motorcycle operations and regional vice president of automotive in Chicago, Washington and Atlanta for BMW of North America. Hilton Head Fire & Rescue hires new firefighter
Kevin Averill recently joined the Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue as a firefighter EMT for Station 1. He is from Beaufort and has worked for Lady’s Island-St. Helena Island Fire District while also serving as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Beaufort.
Babel named to cycling board
Frank Babel, of Hilton Head Island, has been named a board member of the Palmetto Cycling Coalition Board of Directors and will represent the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. Babel is an avid cyclist and bicycle advocate. He is the founder and president of the Hilton Head Island Squeaky Wheels Cycling Advocacy Group, a member of the Kickin’ Asphalt Bike Club, and helped start a Sea Pines Country Club cycling group. He is also the founder and co-chairman of the Hilton Head Boys & Girls Pedal 4 Kids charity biking event.
USCB hires first director of dining
Rochelle Reese was recently named director of dining services for the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s new campus center, scheduled to open in the fall. Reese has 15 years in the hospitality industry. She has worked for USCB’s new dining service provider, Chartwells, since 2005. Before that, she spent six years in country club and hotel venues, driving sales and overseeing all aspects of conventions and special events.
Chiropractor moves locations
Matteo Family Chiropractic has moved its Hilton Head practice to 4 Northridge Drive, Suite C, inside the Foundation Square building. The chiropractic business also has a Bluffton office at 104 Buckwalter Parkway, Suite 1C, in Berkeley Place.
New sales manager joins Holiday Inn
Cindy Brown recently started as a sales manager for the Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton. Brown, who has lived in the area for more than 25 years, will be responsible for booking local and out-ofmarket group business.
Habitat for Humanity announces new hire
John Eddy recently joined the Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity as director of fundraising. Eddy will be responsible for developing an outreach program to individuals and businesses to gain their support for Habitat for Humanity. Eddy has done fundraising for the Children’s Hospital in Denver. He also has a background in educational sales, as well as served as a school principal and superintendent.

New board members at Island Rec
The Hilton Head Island Recreation Association has elected the following people to its board: Alan Perry (past-president), Mike Manesiotis (vice president), Marty Pauls, Julie Jilly, Barry Taylor and Anne Delvecchio will serve oneyear terms. John Brighton (president), Kyle Theodore, Peter Keber, Dana Millen and Anthony Serpe will serve two-year terms. Norm Wall, Bubba Gillis (secretary), Bob Stevens, Suzan Weber (treasurer), Elizabeth Jumper and Jennifer Woods will serve three-year terms.
New treatments, trials under way
Dr. Richard VanderSlice is now offering his patients urology treatments for female sexual function and urinary incontinence. He has joined with Fellows Research Alliance as a physician investigator in two clinical trials. One trial is testing a new medication for low libido, or sex drive, in women who have had surgical removal of the ovaries. New board chair at TCL
Robert P. Trask has been named chair of the Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors. Trask is a native of Beaufort and is president and CEO of Atlantic Community Bank, a community bank headquartered in Bluffton.
Cora Bett, Tideland merge
Cora Bett Thomas Realty will expand into the Beaufort market by adding offices in Savannah, Bluffton and on Hilton Head Island. The move comes after a merger with Tideland Realty, led by Matt and Christi Trumps, along with Jami Pizzo, Gilda Molzow and Sam Grove.
