Two new members have been elected for three-year terms on the board of LowCountry Legal Aid. William "Bill" Stephens is an Okatie resident, energy executive and attorney with more than 30 years experience. David Ruckno is a Hilton Head resident and financial advisor for Merrill Lynch. J Banks wins design award
J Banks Design received the 2010 ADAC Southeast Designer of the Year Award for Best Residential Living Room. The competition was open to interior designers, interior design firms and architects from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The competition was judged by a panel of industry and educational professionals, as well as editors from Veranda magazine.

Olivetti earns top award
Hilton Head attorney Keri J. Olivetti was awarded the South Carolina Bar’s Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award in Columbia at the South Carolina Bar Foundation Annual Gala. Olivetti is one of the founders of LowCountry Legal Aid, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance to people that cannot afford it.
Physical therapist awarded golf certification
Tim Dorion of The Physical Therapy Center has received certification through the Titleist Performance Institute as a golf fitness instructor. The certification enables fitness, golf and medical professionals to recognize physical performance issues that may limit golfers from reaching their potential. Chamber wins communications award
The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce was recently honored with an Award for Communications Excellence by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives'. The Awards for Communications Excellence is a national competition that recognizes excellence in all areas of communications.
Zonta Club awards scholarships
Grace Beall and Brittnay Johnston, both of Hilton Head Preparatory School, were the recent recipients of the Zonta Club of Hilton Head Island’s $1,250 2010 Z-Club Scholarships. Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
Arts council awards scholarships
The Island School Council for the Arts has selected the 2010 recipients of the Plumb Scholarship, which are awarded annually to students of exceptional merit planning a career in the arts. The students are, from Hilton Head High, Corey Bell, Bill Glesias, Andrew Musulin, Marissa Nichols, Brady Nichols, Davis Ruplinger and Brenna Theodore; Bluffton High, Emma Hershberger; Hilton Head Prep, Maddy Martin; and home-school, Philip Nix and Madison Thomas.
