The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today selected FACES DaySpa of Hilton Head Island, as one of seven finalists for Americas Small Business of the Year Award. FACES will be honored during Americas Small Business Summit 2009, May 11-13, in Washington, D.C.

While operating in one of the most difficult economic environments of our lifetime, these finalists have exemplified the true spirit of American enterprise, said Thomas J. Donohue, the U.S. Chambers president and CEO. “We are proud to recognize their exemplary efforts and hope that their success is contagious. It is an entrepreneurial drive like this that will rebuild our economy to be stronger than ever.

Patricia Owen has guided FACES DaySpa from its inception as a small boutique specializing in Estee Lauder cosmetics to its current status as a nationally renowned day spa profiled in major publications. When it opened in 1983, FACES boutique featured Hilton Head Island's first Estee Lauder cosmetics department. In 1988, Owen reinvented her business, jumping into the professional skin care industry. Today, FACES owns a private line of skin care, cosmetic, and bath and body products. It has a client base of nearly 2,500 customers.

From the U.S. Chamber’s 56 Blue Ribbon Small Business Award winners, one finalist was selected to represent each of seven regions. A single finalist will be named Americas Small Business of the Year 2009 at the awards luncheon on May 12 during Americas Small Business Summit.

America’s Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Sams Club, pays tribute to businesses showcasing exemplary business practices in the areas of staff training and motivation, community involvement, customer service, and business and financial planning.
