Colleton River gets accolades
Club Leaders Forum recently gave the Colleton River Plantation Club its Platinum Club of America award based on quality of membership, tradition and culture, amenities, governance and quality of staff management.
Zonta Club gives scholarships
The Zonta Club of Hilton Head recently awarded its 2009 Z-Club scholarships to Nicole Schultz, a Hilton Head Preparatory School graduate, and Mary Grace Short, a Hilton Head Christian Academy graduate. Margaret Hancock, who graduated from Hilton Head Prep, received the Young Women in Public Affairs Award.
Chamber receives recognition
The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce recently received recognition from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. It won two Awards of Communication Excellence for the membership brochure, “Come Grow with Us,” in the special publications category; and the 2008 Shop & Dine Locally campaign in the campaigns and programs category.
Attorney gets certified
Jay Mullinax recently signed a five-year agreement to serve as South Carolina’s only specialist author and legal editor of the estate planning software program Lawgic, which is used to assist in preparing custom estate planning documents. Call 843-785-6101.
Nursing program accredited
The University of South Carolina Beaufort’s registered nurse programs have earned five-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Beaufort Memorial honored
The Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists recently honored Beaufort Memorial Bluffton Medical Services’ clinical laboratory. Bluffton Medical Services medical director Dr. Brad Collins and senior director Elaine Whisman received special recognition for “excellence of the services being provided.”
Vacation Company top ranking
Escapia, a Web-based management and marketing solutions company for vacation rental managers, has listed The Vacation Company of Hilton Head Island as No. 8 Guest Satisfaction Superstar. Ratings are submitted by more than 50,000 past guests of vacation rental firms across the country.
Holiday Inn honors employees
Johnny Fripp and Jerry Walczak were recently honored for more than 30 years of service at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront. Fripp has been working for the Holiday Inn since 1975. Walczak started working for a Pittsburgh Holiday Inn in 1976, and transferred to the Hilton Head Island facility in 1984 as director of maintenance.

Literacy group sees recognition
Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry was recently accredited by ProLiteracy, a nonproft educational organization that supports local literacy programs through a national network of 130,000 volunteers and 1,200 local, state and regional literacy providers in the United States.
Arts Council presents awards
The Arts Council of Beaufort County recently presented its arts awards during its annual meeting. Amos Hummell received the Bluffton Mayor’s Award for the Arts. Martha Ahrens Schymik received the Hilton Head Mayor’s Award for the Arts for her work as a curator and exhibit designer for the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and the Coastal Discovery Museum. Alana Adams, director of education at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, received Arts Educator of the Year.
Inn recognized by magazine
The Inn at Palmetto Bluff was named the top resort in the U.S. and Canada in the World’s Best Awards by a readers survey in “Travel + Leisure” magazine.
Hospital honored for heart care
Hilton Head Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines–Heart Failure Silver Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The recognition signifies that the hospital has reached the goal of treating heart failure patients with 85 percent compliance for one year to core standard levels of care.
