The International Society of Arboriculture recently awarded arborist certification to Callawassie Island Golf Course superintendent Matthew Tacilauskas after a prescribed course of study and examination for mastery.

Rep. Bill Herbkersman honored by chiropractors
The South Carolina Chiropractic Association recently honored S.C. Rep. Bill Herbkersman as the 2009 Legislator of the Year. Each year, the SCCA recognizes a member of the General Assembly for their support of the chiropractic profession and the advancement of health care for all South Carolinians.

Tradition National Golf Course gets environmental honor
The course at Tradition National Golf Club has achieved designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program.
Rich Maxfield, course superintendent, led the effort to obtain sanctuary status and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International.
Boyd is Volunteer of Year
Susan Boyd has been named Volunteer of the Year by Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry. She has been with the organization since 2003, working with various small groups of students who are learning to speak English at Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry’s English literacy program at St. Francis Catholic School.

Nurses receive certification
The nursing staff at Hospice Care of the Lowcountry was recently certified by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses. The newly-certified nurses include: Mary Estes, Sarah Greene, Joni Gruber, Thelma Noble, Beth Radcliffe and Sandy Ploszaj, joining already-certified nurses Debi Malool, MaryAnne Richardson and Jenny Brasington. The American Society of Media Photographers announced that Bluffton resident Greg Smith won in its annual competition for the best projects by ASMP members. Batson work is published
