What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by attending a delightful concert celebrating the music of George Gershwin? Of course, a nice dinner out and flowers and candy will complete the romantic evening.

Popular clarinetist Ken Peplowski returns to Hilton Head and is joined by vocalist Clairdee and pianist Bob Alberti as the orchestra performs this Pops concert.

Ticket sales have been brisk for the two concerts, which will be on Feb. 14 and 15. Both are at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Several groups, including plantations and clubs, are planning dinners followed by the concert. So bring your sweetheart, good friend and group of friends to one of these two heartwarming concerts.

Piano competition

The 2010 Hilton Head International Piano Competition is just around the corner in early March.

Plan to attend one or more of the rounds of competition, which begin March 8 and conclude with the final round performed by the three finalists with the full orchestra on March 15. All rounds are held at First Presbyterian Church.

The 20 competitors have been selected from a field of 119 applicants from 34 countries. They range from 19- to 28-years-old. While they are here, competitors engage in outreach activities in schools and throughout the community. Don’t miss this inspiring week of events.

Symphony Under the Stars

The Annual Symphony Under the Stars has a new venue this year. The two night outdoor concerts will take place at Honey Horn Plantation on April 6 and 7.

This popular pops event is best enjoyed with a group of friends. Bring your dinner and table decorations — the fancier or more outlandish the better — and don your costumes. This year’s program features popular movie show tunes, so select your favorite movie or play and get into the theme.
