THROUGH JANUARY 22
Large Format Photography by Ben Ham
When/Where: Through Jan. 22 at the Walter Greer Gallery, Arts Center of Coastal Carolina
The Scoop: Award-winning landscape photographer Ben Ham works exclusively with an 8x10 wooden folding field camera, capturing images on black and white film. His work will be on display in an exhibit titled “The Journey: Large Format Photography by Ben Ham.” The collection includes limited-edition prints of the Rockies, the Southwest, California wine country and the Lowcountry. His work, sold only as fine art, is in private and corporate collections across the United States, as well as Canada, the UK, France and South Africa. www.artshhi.com.

The Artist Unleashed

When/Where: Show runs through Jan. 15 in the gallery at ARTworks in Beaufort Town Center
The Scoop: Twelve ARTworks artists will display their work from the past year. “Lowcountry Colors”

When/Where: Exhibit runs through Jan 9 at the Charles Street Gallery, 914 Charles St. in Beaufort
The Scoop: “Lowcountry Colors” is the theme for the Charles Street Gallery’s 5th Annual Invitational. Watercolors, oils, film and other media will be on display. Italian Rhapsody

When/Where: Exhibit runs through Jan. 8 at the Beaufort County Library, 11 Beach City Road
The Scoop: Last year, nine artists with a Lowcountry connection traveled to Italy, where they painted every day in a different location in Umbria. The paintings will be on display at the library.

Island Gifts Exhibit

When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays Jan. 4-Feb 15; opening reception, from 3-5 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Society of Bluffton Artists Gallery (SoBA) on Boundary Street in Bluffton.
The Scoop: SoBA will present “Island Gifts,” recent watercolor works by Betty Luntey. She spends her winters on Hilton Head and summers on Shelter Island, New York.
On Shelter Island, she and her husband maintain an extensive garden dedicated to flowers. That garden is the inspiration for many of Luntey’s works.
She finds watercolor the perfect medium to work with outdoors, where she does much of her painting. 757-6586; www.sobagalleries.com

Light and Action
Where: The Art League of Hilton Head Gallery
The Scoop: A show of acrylics and water-colors by Marilyn Dizikes and cast metal miniature figures by Dean Dizikes. Marilyn’s paintings reflect her concept of “light,” while Dean’s work is the “action,” presenting his cast metal miniatures in authentic historical settings. Inner Landscapes
When/Where: 4-8 p.m. Jan. 14 at Picture This Gallery
The Scoop: Paintings by young contemporary artist Ruth Hunter will be on display . Assemblage and Collage with Caroll Williams
When/Where: A reception with the artist will take place from 5:30-9 p.m. Jan. 15; the show runs through Feb. 6 at The Charles Street Gallery, 914 Charles St. in Beaufort.
The Scoop: “Simply/Found: Assemblage and Collage” will exhibit work by Caroll Williams, who blends unique styles and their shades of communication, repurposing and “onion-peeling” into objects of fine art. www.charlesstreetgallery.com, 521-9054.

USCB Studio Art Exhibition

JAN. 18-MARCH 14
Watercolors by Doris Shay

When/Where: A special reception for the artist will be held from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 22; the show runs Jan. 18-March 14 at the Maye River Gallery, 37 Calhoun St. in Bluffton
The Scoop: Maye River Gallery’s watercolor exhibit will showcase Doris Shay’s art. Shay holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from West Virginia University. She was active in the arts community in Clarksburg, W. Va., until she and her family moved to Hilton Head almost 30 years ago. Since then, she has been active with the Art League. 747-2633

JAN. 23
Mardi Gras Beaufort

When/Where: From 7-11 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Officers Club in the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort

JAN. 27
Introduction to Pastels

When/Where: From 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Charles “Lind” Brown Center at Green and Hamar streets in Beaufort
