• “Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art”:
On display at the Coastal Discovery Museum, Honey Horn, Hilton Head Island. The exhibit traces the histories of coiled basketry in Africa and America and explores the evolution of an ancient art with Lowcountry ties. In conjunction, the museum will also offer the following programs: “Grass Roots: The Exhibition and the Inspiration” by Dr. Dale Rosengarten and Nakia Wigfall (Sept. 14); “Sharing the Penn School Experience” by Rosalyn Browne, Director of History and Culture at the Penn Center (Oct. 12); “Habitat and Biology of Basket-Making Materials” with Laura Lee Rose, Horticulture Extension Agent at Clemson (Nov. 16) and “Sweetgrass Basket Making” with a local Gullah basket maker (Sept. 24, Oct. 8 and Nov. 11).
