Feel like taking a run? Getting dolled up for a night out? Maybe you’re in the mood to check out some local folk music? Hey, here’s a crazy thought; do all three. It’s all possible this weekend.

go_tri“Heat It Up” Hilton Head Island Criterium Series: 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Hilton Head Island High School. Go-Tri sports presents four race dates to be crowned the best of Hilton Head Island. Race fee is $25 for early and online registration and $35 the day of the race. Hampton Lake December Open House: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 7 and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Jan, 8. Hampton Lake opens its doors and invites the community to an open house with more than a dozen model homes available for tour. For information call 843-836-5253 or visit  www.HamptonLake.com. Hampton Lake is located at 98 Fording Island Road Bluffton Parkway, off Hwy 278.
Open House guests are invited to spend time in the award-winning amenity village and enjoy lunch at Backwater Bill’s, Hampton Lake’s private, lakefront restaurant (credit card only). For lunch reservations call (843) 836-7475.

The Annual American Cancer Society Winter Benefit: 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7 in the Champions Ballroom at the Harbour Town Club. The black-tie optional event will feature cocktails, dinner, dancing, a silent auction throughout the evening as well as a brief live auction. The annual benefit raises money to serve cancer patients in our community, fund programs of early detection and prevention in the greater Hilton Head Island area and fund clinical research on the national level.  Local programs that have been funded include the Reach to Recovery program, Patient Services room, Look Good, Feel Better and the Hope Lodge. Tickets are $175 per person. 843-757-7540.

FolkUs and The Hungry Monks in concert: 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at ARTworks in Beaufort. FolkUs is a classic folk trio straight out of Sun City. The Hungry Monks weave a rich tapestry of sound, melodic and rhythmic, grounded in the folk traditions of many cultures. $5 donation at the door. www.artworksinbeaufort.org.
